Wonderful article! Thank you! It made me think of Sammy Davis jnr. He was certainly no Clark Gable, but wow........what an artist he was! He was also married for a while to very pretty Swedish actress May Britt. Your closing sentences made me think of that.
Great story, beautifully written, lots of fun and insightful too. I can also relate to your hero - I have pretty good pitch and a lover once told me that one of my many charms was a smile like Alfred E Neumann...
An amusing story simply written without pretentiousness, always a challenge. Perfect pitch can be a curse. I have several recordings which inevitably bring me out in a nervous sweat when they reach a discordant note by usually the French horns. A harpsichord recording suffers a flat lower register string which drives me mad. Could they really not find a piano tuner before recording it? The discordant banging and plink plonk of the piano is annoying. A particularly disagreeable instrument as is the middle range of clarinets, the oily unctuous sound of saxophones and most other instruments whacked with lumps of wood. Human voices are a problem when associated with bods that cannot use them appropriately. Maria Callus really should have stopped while she was ahead. Her vibrato could have stalled a truck and most certainly is capable of making my eyes water... oh well, thanks for posting your short story, it gives a further insight to your personality.
As a professional writer, proofreader and editor, as well as someone of whom a former girlfriend once said, "You have an unusual face", which is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about my appearance, I find little to criticise in this story. (Well, I mean, proofreaders find fault, it's our job, and no self-respecting editor would ever praise a writer in case they demand more money.) Your story was charming, Manny, and wise and gently wry. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Your talents are infinite, dear Manny!

Thanks, Sheri --- a smile like Mad Magazine's emblematic poster boy? Somehow I don't believe it ...
I loved it! Thank you!
LOVE IT

I am touched by your words, David, thank you so very much!
Umm, no, I didn't like this story. With all the that's going on in the world, a happier story would've suited me. It was depressingly ugly.
Hi Cathrine, that's a pity. Did you read until the end because it had a happy ending?
Thanks for pointing that out ... I thought the story was quite uplifting in fact.
